Il personaggio chiamato inizialmente Kathy Kane, è stato proposto come compagna di Batman, per confutare le accuse di omosessualità, e in risposta alle reazioni dei libro Seduction of the Innocent (1954).
Ora il New York Daily News riferisce che l’eroina diventerà la prima ad essere dichiaratamente lesbica della DC fumetti.
Già dal 2006 il personaggio era diventata lesbica, adesso è stata creata una serie a lei dedicata, ed inizierà entro la fine dell’anno.
Batwoman è una Detective . Il suo ruolo da protagonista in questa serie fa parte di una strategia ben precisa della DC fumetti.
“Abbiamo voluto prima di tutto assicurarci che lei fosse presentata correttamente e che la gente riconoscesse il personaggio,” ha detto Dan DiDio, direttore esecutivo della DC.
“La risposta è stata così forte che abbiamo deciso di girare subito una serie.”
